There are times when someone says or explains something; something you already know to be true, but the way they say it, or explain it, makes a profound impact on your current understanding. That happened to me last week.
I was listening to a gentleman and he said “People today just don’t think.” That took me back to a time when my pastor led off his sermon with “your thoughts control your life.” He spoke on how our thoughts control the way we approach who we are in terms of our bodies, our health and our well-being. Then he said “You are not your body” and while I knew this truth, I received new insight into the control of my physical and spiritual well-being.
All these phrases are 5 words and if allowed to sink into the spirit, each one's weightiness can change a destiny…Maybe yours.
For years I have written, blogged, conducted seminars and coached others on personal development and motivation through understanding their self-talk.
What is self-talk?
Self-talk is the internal words you speak to yourself.
It is the intimate conversations you have with yourself about who you are, what you believe about you, how you view your world and choose to interact within in it.
And most experts agree 99% of self-talk is negative. It’s about what we don’t want, instead of what we really do.
Our world makes up many things…relationships with family, friends, co-workers, education level, chosen work, places you and want to travel to, religion, physical, mental and spiritual well-being, finances, politics, community involvement and your connection to the world, both near and far.
Thoughts about these and other areas of life control our daily beliefs and activities.
But if we delve deeper what becomes clear is these thoughts concerning the world around us are not completely ours.
What I mean by this is our belief system was constructed from others…parents, close family and friends, teachers, strangers, along with TV, radio and printed media (newspapers and books).
Take inventory of how much of it is positive and uplifting.
So, much of our concept of the world is borrowed.
From childhood beliefs and concepts of the world were developed by processing the information you received, the words spoke, and the messages received, from a small segment of people.
As you grew, your interactions hopefully expanded along with the level of information you received.
I like to paraphrase a friend and client of mine who said “your concept of the world is profoundly shaped by the books you read, the people you meet and the places you see.”
So your ability to process this information; to reason through it also expanded and you began to think your own thoughts…or did you!
I just blew your mind there because that is the million-dollar question…Are you thinking your own thoughts?
Stop and take a moment to really consider the last part of that statement.
Because if you are not thinking your own thoughts, then you are not speaking your own words, but the words of others.
Are you doing the work you want to do?
Are you living in the place you want to live?
Do you have the relationships you want?
Are you traveling to the places you want to go?
Are you experiencing the level of happiness, health and well-being you want?
If not, why not?
Stop and think about what you say about your job, home, city, relationships, travel, health, finances, etc?
Why is this important?
Well go back to those 5 little words ‘your thoughts control your life.’
Follow that all the way through…beliefs control thoughts; thoughts control actions; actions control the quality of life.
When the phrase is followed all the way through to the end, we find truth and truth can alter destiny.
Destiny is your purpose, intentions, fate, fortune, your calling...your future world.
Your world, all it is, and all it can ever be, is tied to your thoughts…which is tied to your self-talk…the internal conversations you have with yourself.
What you say to yourself is critical, because you are always right. In fact, you will fight hard to prove you are right, even if you know you are wrong, or you can’t explain why you feel the way you feel.
What’s the answer? Embrace change!
Change your thoughts, change your life.
Now you’re saying…but wait, you just said we will fight hard to prove that what we say to ourselves is right…even if it’s wrong…right?
A paradox. What to do?
First, if you’re not living your destiny; not where you want to be today…don’t beat yourself up. It took time to get where you are and it will take time to change it.
Because change is a process.
A process that begins with 1 thought, 1 thing you tell yourself and then 1 more and 1 more…soon you will have the life…the future you desire…or NOT!
Is that all there is to it?
Pretty much; BUT and there is always a BUT…
The but is how to change your thoughts and begin speaking what you want instead of what you don’t want.
That’s the biggest challenge we face…which is why I wrote a book on it, that I want to share with you. In the next few blog posts I will share some change your thoughts strategies and tactics from that book in the hope that I can help you change some of those thoughts that are not serving you.
So, stay tuned. While you’re waiting for the next post, ask yourself ‘What If’ you could have what you realllllly wanted in life? In your future. It’s a vital step in the process.

Stop the indecision, the doubt, distracting and berating yourself. "When you speak a thing, you release the possibility of it into your world." Start releasing what you want, instead of what you don't.
Don't worry, your information will not be shared.
